With an extensive history dating back to 1394, Arbroath Harbour is a focal point not only for the town of Arbroath but also for the county of Angus. Supporting a fleet of 25 commercial shellfish vessels, 59 floating pontoon berths, a slipway and a commercial boat building yard, it is a busy and diverse working harbour.
We are seeking a competent and motivated Harbour Master to lead the operation, maintenance and development of the harbour during an exciting period of significant infrastructure investment.
Leading a small team of Harbour Assistants, you will ensure the efficient management of harbour operations, oversee marine safety, manage harbour assets and build strong relationships with harbour users.

Job Outline
- Lead and manage the team ensuring that they perform well and in line with service aims, goals and objectives.
- Provide direction for the team; engage, motivate and inspire others; support the transformational change agenda; give a sense of purpose; and role model the Angus Council values.
- Lead and manage employees in accordance with council policy including the prioritisation and evaluation of work.
- Create an environment in which people can do their best work, setting and agreeing standards of performance and addressing unacceptable standards of performance or behaviour.
- Account for and monitor expenditure from an agreed budget, including processing financial documents e.g. invoices, timesheets and claim forms, in accordance with council policies and financial regulations.
- Contribute to effective performance management in accordance with corporate/service requirements.
- Establish systems to gather and analyse information to ensure the work of the team remains focused and customer orientated.
- Promote continuous improvement and efficiency and encourage creativity and innovation with a focus on improving service outcomes.
- Support the development of efficient work practices and the implementation of digital service delivery wherever possible, ensuring the cost-effective use of resources.
- Comply with all data protection law in the processing of personal, and special categories of personal data, in line with the council’s full privacy statement.
