Applications are invited for the positions of Senior Lecturer to support the development and delivery of the Ship Handling courses at Timsbury. You will have extensive Maritime Pilotage and Ship Handling experience and teaching skills. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and a passion for student learning are essential.

We would like to recruit a candidate who shares these research and knowledge exchange ambitions and can contribute to the research culture at Solent, joining our active research community. In your role, you will be supported to be involved in research, knowledge exchange and scholarly activity.
As part of the Warsash Maritime School, our Ship Handling Centre, offers comprehensive hands on Ship Handling courses to Maritime Pilots, Master Mariners, Senior Deck officers and Managers.
Our Ship Handling Centre is the only one of its kind in the UK, and one of very few in the world. Its harbour areas and 19 jetties can create multiple berths, offering a wide range of ship handling scenarios for senior deck officers, captains and pilots.
The courses are delivered using scaled manned models, with emphasis on developing skills and understanding the behaviour and handling of ships. The focus of the training is around the demonstration of slow speed control.
Some unsocial hours and UK/international travel may occasionally be required.
Extensive Maritime Pilotage and Ship Handling experience is essential to this role.
